We Celebrate Easter

I’ve been told that Easter was once a holiday established by some other far gone religion. It’s a shame that it didn’t start out about Jesus, the one who deserves all celebration, but I love it just the same. In my estimation, Jesus is a redeemer. He redeems us all, and He takes bad conditions and brings victory and healing. I think He can use what started out for evil, and use it for good. Easter can bring distraction with the bunnies and eggs full of candy, but those of us who love God can use it as a reminder of what is really important.

Jesus came to earth as a man, lived a sinless life, and was killed by those He came to save. When things looked bleak, He snapped the chains of death like cheap dental floss, flung wide the giant stone over His grave and declared freedom to everyone who calls on His name. That, is something worth celebrating.

This year on Friday night at the Boise Vineyard, we had a Good Friday service. It was really impacting, and simple. With some background music that set the tone, voice actors read through the story of Jesus’ capture and death, giving us all time to realize what Christ did for us, and to just soak in His love. If you’ve never made it to a Good Friday service, it’s really worth your time, to reflect on His sacrifice for our freedom and to realize how that freedom should affect us each.

These shots are from Friday night. I’m sure to have a few more good photos on Sunday. See you then. 🙂
